ISBI looses a giant of a pioneer in the burn care community

The International Society for Burn Injuries mourns the loss of Dr. Fortunato Benaim who passed away on September 24, 2023 at the age of 104 years old. Dr. Benaim is considered the father of burn care in Argentina and one of the pioneers of the burn care community in Latin America and all over the world. He will always be remembered for his passion for research and education in improving the lives of those who suffer devastating burn injuries. Dr. Benaim was one of the founding members of the International Society for Burn Injuries. In 2022, the International Society for Burn Injuries named an award after Dr. Fortunato Benaim recognizing his contributions to the field of burn care around the world.
In 1990, Dr. Benaim was awarded the Taner-Vandeput-Boswick Burn Prize presented by the International Burn Foundation (IBF), the most prestigious prize awarded to a burn care professional every 4 years.
Today the international burn care community has lost a giant. Rest in Peace Dr. Benaim.
