ISBI Prevention Committee Mission Statement
The ISBI Prevention Committee consists of international burn specialists and researchers representing high-, low- and middle-income countries globally interested in primary burns prevention.
Aims
Our aims are to reduce burn-related violence against women and girls (BVAW).
Objectives
- Summarize existing scientific evidence on BVAW
- Analyse BVAW data from existing burn registries
- Gather real life stories from survivors willing to share their experiences
- Collaborate with existing women’s health organisations to leverage our knowledge
- Increase BVAW awareness through liaison with policy makes, healthcare professionals, law and government officials, education establishments and local communities
Violence against women
Violence against women is a global public health problem and violation of women’s human rights. It is an important risk factor for women’s health, with far reaching consequences
The international burns community has unique perspectives and valuable insight into BVAW that can help better understand the magnitude of the problem. Using this information strategically, in collaboration with key NGOs and other stakeholder worldwide, we can raise awareness and leverage public debate and legislative, cultural, judicial and political changes
The ISBI Prevention Symposium, Guadalajara, Mexico 2022
The ISBI Prevention Committee looks forward to seeing you at the Burns prevention Symposium at the ISBI Congress in Guadalajara, Mexico later this year. We will showcase our BVAW work, as well as shine a spotlight on some innovative and sustainable primary burns prevention program worldwide.
