ISBI 2022 Pre Congress-Workshop: “Surviving Sepsis After Burn”

August 28, 2022; 9:00am-3:00pm

Hilton Guadalajara Hotel

Course Director: David Greenhalgh, MD; ISBI President

Sepsis is the number one killer of any burn patient who survives initial resuscitation. Despite this fact, burns have never been included in any major sepsis study. There are current standards for the early treatment of sepsis called “The Surviving Sepsis Campaign”, but, again, they have never applied to a burn patient.   Burns are different because the major barrier to infection, the skin, is eliminated. In addition, sepsis may occur at any time during the hospital stay. To correct this problem, the ISBI, under the leadership of President David Greenhalgh, is organizing the Surviving Sepsis After Burn Campaign (SSABC) to create standards for the early diagnosis and treatment of sepsis in burns. Efforts are currently under way to collect the latest research concerning burn sepsis. The ultimate goal will be to meet in Guadalajara to create an international document that will improve the outcomes after burn sepsis. ”
